“Kolo’s Kennel was started in 1988 by Larry & Shirley Gerber, with the purchase of their first purebred Siberian Husky, (named “Copper”).” The name Kolo Kennels stems from the Siberian Husky farm dog “Kolo”, who was rescued from the Humane Society in 1982 by Larry & Shirley. Kolo quickly became a part of the family, and needless to say, the kennel was named after him. From the first registered Siberian Husky, “Copper”, Shirley continued to grow the kennel, selecting breeding stock that had excellent bloodlines and temperament, (these characteristics are still present in our kennel today). In 2002 Larry and Shirley built a brand new kennel, with state of the art features to ensure an excellent facility for our dogs and puppies for years to come.
In 2007, after Larry and Shirley decided it was time to retire from farming and the Huskies, their son Josh and his wife Melissa, together with their 1-year-old son Reid moved to the farm and took over the kennel. Shirley spent years of hard work developing the kennel, and building a great reputation that Melissa and Josh intend to keep going for the next generation to come.
